Juan Mireles (California) leads the School Facilities and Transportation Services Division (SFTSD) at the California Department of Education. The SFTSD is responsible for ensuring that school districts in California design plans and select school sites that are safe and educationally appropriate pursuant to regulatory standards. Additionally, Juan oversees the Office of School Transportation (OST) which develops CDE’s transportation training curriculum, trains instructors, and monitors instruction. Prior to joining CDE, Juan worked in the Education Systems Unit within the California Department of Finance where he managed budget and policy development for school facilities, charter schools, and teacher credentialing. In that role, Juan led an effort on behalf of the Governor’s Administration to develop key reforms in the School Facilities Program. Juan served for more than 16 years in the Office of Public School Construction (OPSC), which administers California’s $35 billion school facilities bond program, including as Deputy Executive Officer. Juan attended California State University, Sacramento.
